A new species, Oosternum sugitai Hoshina, sp. nov., is described with some figures of important features. The number of Japanese species of the genus Oosternum becomes five.福井県大野市下打波から、ガムシ科Oosternum属(和名：ウスゲガムシ属)の未記載種が発見された。筆者は、本稿にて、O. sugitai sp. nov.(和名：スギタウスゲガムシ)と命名して記載した。学名および和名は、福井県出身で九頭竜川水系の治水に貢献した杉田定一(1851-1929)に由来する。スギタウスゲガムシの発見により、日本産ウスゲガムシ属は、5種となった。
