High-voltage circuit breaker is the important electrical protection equipment for power plant and substation. During the reclosing operation, the time cost from contact closure to the second contact separate is called close-open time. It has significant influence on breaking capacity of the second contact separate during the reclosing operation of EHV circuit breakers. Auxiliary switch is a direct and reliable electromechanical component which is used to control the close-open time of high-voltage circuit breaker. This paper, combining with the theoretical mechanics and system dynamics, is the first time to research the auxiliary switch for time delay which is used to control the close-open time, analyze the structural characteristics of auxiliary switch and establish a mathematical model for describing operation characteristics of the auxiliary switch. Otherwise, in this paper, a software which is based on software engineering for simulating and analyzing operation characteristics of auxiliary switch is developed to solve delay time and it is verified by experiments. The research result is very significant for ensuring the breaking capacity of high-voltage circuit breaker.
