Effects of three kinds of additives (SDS, THF, and TBAB) as promoter on gas hydrate formation kinetics were investigated in a flow type reactor. HCFC-22 gas, which is one of hydrochlorofluorocarbons, was used in this study as a model gas. HCFC-22 can form structure I hydrate as well as those of CH_4 and CO_2. The effect of additives on gas hydrate formation kinetics was evaluated with the hydrate formation rate constant aK^*. The promoting effect and the inhibition effect on HCFC-22 hydrate formation emerged in each additive: Lower additive concentration appeared the promoting effect, and higher inhibited hydrate formation. One of factors for promoting effect was the interfacial area expansion came from the interfacial tension reduction. SDS demonstrated the higher promoting effect than THF and TBAB by lower concentration because of higher performance of surface tension reduction. SDS was a good potential to promote gas hydrate in low concentration among experimental additives. It was evaluated that the inhibition effect of THF and TBAB originated in own hydrate structure, and the effect of SDS was due to heavy adsorption of SDS molecules on bubbles/hydrate particles surface.
