W. Wolfensberger made the definition of normalization in 1972. However he is criticized by much many. Because his theory includes assimilation. He suggested new term for normalization, that is "social role valorization" in 1983. In spite of, much criticism has continued. For his theory hasn't excluded the aspect of assimilation as a result. What does assimilation mean for the disabled people? It means that they turn into the able-bodied, or that they become the nearly able-bodied. But they can achieve neither, and don't have to. Now we need another thinking ; that is pluralism. Pluralism is derived from ethnic, cultural assimilation. And it has two effects on our society. First it is against discrimination. Second it is a source of energy in our society. Pluralism is to accept complexity, to value uniqueness, therefore the disabled people are accepted as they are in our society. It is better than assimilation. We need to reconsider the concept of normalization in the aspect of pluralism.
