To realize more complex optical functions in smaller devices new technologies are needed, that provides new optical functions realized by an enlarged spectrum of machinable surface geometries. This paper will describe the development of two novel manufacturing technologies for diamond machining of prismatic micro-structures as well as diffractive surface pattern. Both structure types are not machinable by lithography, by conventional diamond machining technologies as well as assembly techniques. Therefore, these technologies will enlarge the spectrum structures for the optical designer drastically. Potential applications could be found in security, novel lightning systems for LEDs and advanced optical sensor systems.
