A new heuristic algorithm is proposed in this paper to optimize the sleep signal selection in controlling-value-based (CV-based) power gating technology. Different from the previously proposed algorithms, for each power block, both the probability of taking controlling vlaue (p) and the number of sleep gates (N) are considered in the new algorithm. Experiment results show that the proposed heuristic algorithm can achieve over 26% of total power reduction without sacrificing the performance, which is approximately 10% more than the power reduction obtained by the prior algorithms.
