A Method for Estimating the Ship Propeller Characteristics

Two methods are presented for estimating ships' propeller characteristics. In the one method, they are obtained from correcting the model test results and in the other from utilizing the numerical results by means of the lifting surface theory. In every case the effect of viscosity is considered on the lift and drag of equivalent profile. The ships' propeller characteristics estimated by means of these two methods are identical with each other. The model propeller characteristics estimated from the numerical results by means of the lifting surface theory agree well with the tank test results. In the common load conditions the efficiency of ship propellers estimated by means of these methods is about 6% higher than the value indicated in the propeller charts.
