Experimental results of the turbulence in a circulating water channel flow are reported. The results are in the same accuracy as that for the measurements in a wind tunnel because the dusts adhered to hot films are eliminated. In the boundary layer of the after body and in the near wake of an elliptic cylinder, longitudinal turbulence intensity is larger than the intensities in other two directions. The overall intensity in the direction normal to the surface in the boundary layer is smaller than that in the spanwise direction. In the wake, however, the order of magnitude of those becomes to be reversal. The velocity distribution in the wake of the cylinder has a point of inflexion and this point corresponds to the location having maximum values of the turbulence intensity and Reynolds stress. The eddy kinematic viscosity in the boundary layer of the elliptic cylinder becomes smaller as the after end approachs, in other words, the streamline curvature becomes large. The effect of streamline curvature on the mixing length has been represented in terms of Richardson number. From present results of mixing length it is suggested that a factor of the Richardson number for mixing length correction varies across the boundary layer.
