The patent information is the technology information and the right information concerning the result of the research and development in companies or universities. Therefore, the research based on the analysis of the patent information is extremely effective in order to clarify the application trends in the fields of advanced technology and the direction of research and development. Based on this information, the direction of the research and development can be decided in a company or the university. The third technology basic plan (March, 2006 cabinet decision) decided 4 or 8 technology fields as the very important fields in Japan. They are life science, information and communication, environment, nanotechnology / materials, energy, manufacturing, a social infrastructure, a frontier. Japan Patent Office is doing the research based on the analysis of the patent information in these 4 or 8 technology fields. In this report, the research based on the analysis of the patent information by Japan Patent Office is explained. Moreover, as one of the example of this research, the analysis on "digital camera machine" is shown.
