Hilltopping behaviour of the Indian Awlking, Choaspes benjaminii japonica (MURRAY), was observed around the top of Mt. Kazura in Nagano. The circularflight of males is possibly mate-searching behaviour. Flying males spaced out the circular flight areas with each other. However, the area was not a territory because no territorial defence was observed. I suggest "continuously flying type" mate-locating strategy of the Indian Awlking is advantageous for catching females which flutter very fast.
