The Japanese races of Parasemia plantaginis (LINNE) are dealt with. One race, macromera (BUTLER), may be divided into two races, viz. the Hokkaido race and the Honsyu race. The other, japonica, was described by INOUE & KOBAYASHI (1956) from Central Honsyu, on the basis of the male specimen, and they treated it as a subspecies of P. plantaginis, but I have some question whether it justifies the treatment. In the actual state, the matter is not settled. The genitalia of each of the above Japanese races are quite indistinguishable, and also identical with those of the Central European race. Parasemia plantaginis (L.) ssp.? japonica INOUE et KOBAYASHI Tinea, 3 (1-2): 138, figs. 4, 5, & 6, 1956. A darker race than the others. Female (unrecorded) illustrated on fig. 18. 9 . Black ; sides of patagia, hairs of lateral areas of abdomen, anal tuft orange-yellow. Forewing with pale orange-yellow markings; an interrupted streak along submedian fold ; a spot on discocellulars; two posterior bands connected to each other. Hindwing with a subterminal orange-yellow band from just below costa to vein 2. One female was collected by Mr. A. MUTUURA at Kamikoti (alt. 1550m.), Central Honsyu, Japan, July, 21, 1951. Distribution: Japan (Honsyu).
