Many corporations have been reevaluating CSR activities since global recession in late 2008. Especially, philanthropy for local society which has unclear relation with corporation's business faces difficulty in term of survive. However, philanthropy should be promoted particularly in recession period, because many social issues appear within. I defined two analytical frameworks for CSR activities and for philanthropy activities based on research survey, and showed analytical result with the frameworks on philanthropy activities for local society which was executed by 13 Japanese corporations regarded as proactive corporations in CSR. I indicates that many activities have weak relation with corporation's business; they might be shrunk or canceled in recession period. In contrast, some are found as 'strategic CSR activities' with strong relation of corporation's business. Consequently, they have growth opportunites by producing merits for both local society and the corporations.
