A new body force model which represents the contrarotating propellers(CRP) effects based on a simplified propeller theory is compared with the existing prescribed body force model. This new model can cope with the interactions of the two propellers (the fore and the aft propeller of CRP). At first, the numerical simulation of the propeller open water test is carried out. The velocity distributions obtained by the numerical simulation are compared with those of the existing prescribed body force model and the measurement. Then the numerical simulation of ship flows under self-propulsion condition is performed. The wake flows behind a conventional single propeller (CP) and CRP are compared with the prescribed body force model results and the self-propulsion factors are compared with the measured results. Through the above numerical simulations, the adaptability of the present body force model is discussed.
