A Study on Floating Structure for Coal Loading/Unloading (2nd Report) : Spring Forces of Dynamic Model in Vicinity of Large Ship

Recently, in order to improve the existing loading/unloading structure for coal transportation in Indonesia, a semi-submersible (S.S.) structure has been proposed. The S.S. structure is united with the coal barge when it transships a coal from the barge to the deep draft bulk carrier at open sea. In the previous paper, the authors discussed the bottom fender forces and motions of the united S.S. structure and the barge in regular waves both theoretically and experimentally. In this paper, the same problem in the vicinity of a large ship is discussed by considering the hydrodynamic effects between S.S. structure and the large ship. By assuming a 2D (two-dimensional) dynamic model of the united coal barge and S.S. structure, the bottom fender forces in waves have been evaluated.
