On the Strength of Highly Skewed Propelles in Transient Condition〔含 討論〕

In the previous paper, one of the authors proposed the criteria for selecting skew, one of which says that any stress concentration with the maximum stress on a blade near trailing edge around mid-radius area is to be avoided. However, this criterion was deduced mainly from consideration of blade stress in steady ahead condition. In this paper, through the blade stress measurements on two kinds of highly skewed propellers, one within and the other out of the criteria, in transient conditions, the characteristics of dynamic blade stress were studied. As the results it was shown that the blade strength of the highly skewed propeller designed by using the criteria proved to be within safe side, but the other one, which did not satisfy the criteria, showed very high level of blade stress. Thus it was shown that the criteria are useful for the blade stress of highly skewed propellers also in transient conditions.
