This is the continuation of the previous study on the coupled vibration of main hull and bottom structure. The fundamental differential equations and the conditions of continuity have been derived from Hamilton's principle, and the computer program for calculation by means of the transfer matrix method has been coded. Two-dimensional value of the added mass of water is estimated in the same way as in the previous report, while the J-factor, representing the correction for three dimensional flow, is put forward in the form of an approximate formula, based on the various existing data. Vertical vibration of a 26,000tdw bulk carrier in ballast condition has been calculated by means of the method mentioned above, the results of which agree well with the experimental values both in frequency and mode shape. Calculations are also carried out on the aforesaid ship in three kinds of full load conditions, and the frequencies and mode shapes are investigated. Further the investigations are executed how the frequency of coupled vibration is influenced by the relation between frequencies of uncoupled bottom vibration (as a panel simply supported along edges) and uncoupled main hull vibration (according to the beam theory).
