Typically, Japanese universities provide support and guidance to study abroadparticipants by conducting pre-departure orientation and information sessions. Thescope of support and guidance, however, is limited to pre-departure programs anddoes not include guidance for students during or after their program has finished.As studentsʼ total study abroad experience extends from before the program,into, and often, even after their graduation from the university, support and guidancefor them should, therefore, also extend over this entire period. Based on this reasoning,a more comprehensive study abroad program which provides extended educationalsupport and guidance beyond the pre-departure preparation phase is proposed.To give an overview of such a program, the educational components necessary ateach stage of the program will be identified along with the educational purposes behindthem.
