Four apaturine butterflies placed in the genus Sephisa are reviewed with regard to thier taxonomic history, external morphology, characteristics of the wing markings, distribution, ecology and early stages. The genus Sephisa is included in the Euripus-group which consists of five genera, namely, Euripus, Hestina, Sephisa, Sasakia and Hestinalis. Sephisa is unique among the group in the following respects: (1) The larvae feed on Quercus. They are gregarious when young. (2) The eggs are laid in batches, often in a coiled leaf of the food plant. (3) The terminal abdominal segments of females strongly curve ventrally. This shape seems suitable for the above-mentioned ovipositing habit. Most of the genetic forms of females so far as known are illustrated in color. It is noted that S. chandra from Bhutan differs from the specimens of other localities in the wing marking as well as wing shape. The early stages of S. daimio is illustrated for the first time in this revision by courtesy of Mr. H. Uchida.
