An importance of system-reservoir interactions in entropy production is discussed in this paper. First we summarize a formal theory of phase-space dynamics containing non-Hamiltonian dynamics. Equations of motion for distribution functions and phase variables are derived in phase-space. Then the phase-space volume contraction rate included in the Liouville operator for the distribution functions connected with entropy production. Finally it is shown that the entropy production of the system described by non-Hamiltonian dynamics is induced by system-reservoir interactions through some examples such as dissipative dynamical systems and a thermostated system.
