Japanese elementary and junior high schools are required to teach moral studies. According to the national guideline, contents of moral education are based on epistemological moral philosophy. Independent autonomy is emphasized to learn.Under the progress of globalization, however, we need to teach morality that enable to live together with people of different cultural backgrounds. The national guideline has some reference about intercultural communication, but it cannot deal with political or religious issues and daily life problems. The purpose of this paper is to discuss morality for multicultural citizenship according to R. Rorty's bourgeois liberalism. Rorty is an American philosopher. He argued against representationalist epistemology as Cartesian-Kantian philosophical tradition. Instead, he proposed linguistic pragmatism and ethnocentrism. On Rorty's account, Bourgeois liberalism is the consequence of pragmatism. The notion of ethnocentrism is a link between antirepresentationalism and political liberalism. Morality guided by political liberalism is 'the sort of cosmopolitan know-how' that includes 'avoiding cruelty', free and open encounters', 'continuing the conversation', and 'unforced agreement'. Rorty calls it 'human solidarity'.
