A location-based service provides a mobile user real-time suggestions by using the spatial information such as his current position and the possible destinations. Traditionally, this service regards the user's position and his possible destinations as points in the Euclidean space and chooses closer points to the query as better destinations. In practice, however, the direction for a destination is an important factor for the user's decision. Therefore, our framework chooses better points considering not only the distance aspect but also the direction aspect. The better points are defined in terms of an extended notion of the skyline concept; no other points can defeat them in both aspects. We propose efficient methods to respond instantaneous and continuous direction-based spatial skyline queries and search for better points in terms of both aspects.
