Because of no reliable method for determining the rates of glomerular filtrated protein, ther have been few studies on the quantitative relationship between glomerular permeability and tubular reabsorption of protein. The purpose of this study is to investigated the rate of tubular reabsorption of protein in normal and with proteinuria rats. Steroid treated rats with proteinuria was also investigated. Methods: Normal and Masugi-nephritis rats of wister strain were given T-1824 with three stepwise increasing doses by intravenous injection. Blood was collected after 1, 2 and 3 hours. Renal content of T-1824 was estimated after saline per fusion. The cocentration of T-1824 attached to individual serum proteins was measured by salting. Results: Each tubular reabsorption rates of protein fraction were as follows: in normal rats, albumin 1.3, α-+β-globulin 2.0, γ-globulin 1.8mg/hr. In Masugi-nephritis rats, albumin+α-globulin 3.8, β-globulin 3.3, γ-globulin 3.6 mg/hr. Tubular reabosorption of protein to filtered load accounted for as follows: Total protein 50.4, albumin+α-globulin 35.9, β-globulin 71.7, γ-globulin 80.2%. After steroid treated, in Masugi-nephritis renal content of T-1824 increased. Assuming that renal content of T-1824 is parallel to the rate of tubular reabsorption of protein, tubular reabsorption of protein varied with the rate of proteinuria, and increased after steroid administration.
