By this method, the time, velocity, distance and direction of the movement of mouse can be estimated. The apparatus consists of a cylindrical cage, which axis is hung from a spring on one side and passed through a fixed hole on the other side. Around the axis 6 equidistant glass tubes are implaced. Using this apparatus, vertical movement, side to side displacement and rotatory movement can be recorded. From the records motility velocity is calculated by [numerical formula] r : radius l : length of the cage m : displacement led from rotation n: side to side displacement Motility time is also calculated from the records. Motility distance == Motility velocity X Motility time. Motility direction was persued by vector analysis. Caffeine, methamphetamine, phenobarbital, bromide and chlorpromazine were compared in their proper doses. Psychodepressants were divided into three types from motility velocity. The characteristic nature of methamphetamine was exhibited by vector analysis. After repeated administration of 10 mg/kg of methamphetamine, the initial motility time decreases, decreasing phase is still more depressed and the second increasing phase appears quite earlier than in the case of single administration of 10 mg/kg of methamphetamine. And also, by repeated administration of methamphetamine for three weeks, the change in motility direction of the mouse turns greatly towards a negative direction and such change lasts more than twelve weeks after withdrawal of methamphetamine. To such distinct change in motility direction after repeated administration of methamphetamine, chlorpromazine has an antagonistic effect.
