A histopathological study, based on serial biopsies, of lymph nodes, spleen, and other lymphatic tissues of 61 adult rabbits sensitized with hen egg white, egg albumin, bovine serum albumin, horse serum, and duck serum for the period up to 415 days is presented. The histological findings here obtained are as follows : 1. In the lymph nodes, granulocytic infiltration (especially predominant in the regional lymph nodes when injected subcutaneously), and serous exudation or histolysis followed by lymphocytic, reticulum cellular, and plasma cellular proliferations took place in the initial stage, which became continued and more distinct in the subsequent stage. In the later stage the proliferative reaction stayed at a standstill or regressed, while fibrillosis or fibrosis appeared in the lymph nodes. 2. In the spleen, serous exudation or histolysis in the initial stage followed by enlargement of lymph follicles with pale centers, reticulum cellular proliferation of red pulp, and perivascular proliferation of plasma cells in perifollicular zones in the subsequent stage was noticed. Such hyperplasia of the spleen in the earlier and advanced stages regressed and was gradually replaced by macrophage reaction and fibrosis in the later stage. 3. Palatine tonsils and appendix vermiformis demonstrated hyperplasia of lymphatic tissue in the earlier and advanced stages. Reactions of thymus were generally mild. 4. In some of animals sensitized over 100 days myeloid metaplasia, amyloidosis, and fibroadenia of spleen resembling that of Banti's syndrome in man were encountered. Nucleocytolysis and formation of hematoxylin stained bodies were seen occasionally in lymph nodes and spleen showing conspicuous proliferation of basophilic reticulum cells at the cost of formation of blood cells.
