Twenty two cat brains with surgical lesions in various gyri of one or both cerebral hemispheres were studied with the Nauta method. The results obtained were as follows : (1) The anterior portion of the cortex, including the proreus, anterior and posterior sigmoid, coronal, anterior suprasylvian and anterior ectosylvian gyri, was found to project to the anterior part of the homolateral striatum. Projection of the gyrus proreus and the anterior and posterior sigmoid gyri to the caudate nucleus consisted of much more fibers than that to the putamen, the latter being sparse, while projection fibers of the coronal, anterior suprasylvian and anterior ectosylvian gyri to the putamen are nearly equal in number or rather more than to the caudate nucleus. (2) Each gyrus in the middle part of the lateral Surface of the cerebral hemisphere has the connection with the posterior part of the caudate nucleus or the putamen ; the anterior part of the lateral gyrus and the middle suprasylvian gyrus project mostly to the caudate nucleus, while the middle ectosylvian, middle sylvian and posterior ectosylvian gyri project only to the putamen. (3) The posterior half of the lateral gyrus and the posterior suprasylvian gyrus which are placed in the posterior portion of the cerebral cortex can not be demonstrated to project to the striatum.
