Studies on the fingerprint types conducted in 6,694 men and 7,142 women residing in Tochigi Prefecture have revealed the following results: Of all the 10 fingers on both hands, 5 fingers in men and 8 fingers in women were found to have all the types of fingerprints on them which could be placed in order of the rate of incidence. In both men and ,women, the types of fingerprints, in order of the rate of incidence, appeared in either one of the following three formulas: (a) S, OW, B and ODS; (b) S, OW, ODS and B; and (c) OW, S, ODS and B. A comparative study of the fingerprint types of 5 fingers on each hand of the inhabitants of Tochigi Prefecture and those of Aomori and Akita Prefectures showed, that, in both men and women, the incidences of B, S and ODS were higher among the inhabitants of Akita and Aomori Prefectures, while the incidence of OW was higher among the inhabitants of Tochigi Prefecture.
