Segmental resection of the body of the stomach has performed on 64 cases of gastroptosis as a new surgical treatment. The author obtained following new knowledges on gastroptosis as the results of various clinical examinations on these cases. 1) The grade of gastroptosis has devided for three groups, namely mild (Grade I), moderate (Grade II, and severe (Grade III). All cases on which our new operation was performed belong to grade III. Peristaltic movement is not satisfactorily observed and evacuation of gastric container is delayed. However each of these condition was considerably improved after this kind of surgery. 2) Each part of the stomach was examined by baloon method before and after,surgery. Gastric function was considerably improved after the surgery in spite of poor function of the viscus at preoperative stage. Movement of pyloric portion of the stomach was showing hyperperistalsis. 3) Gastric secretion is disturbed in pararel with the grade of ptosis, and that of in gastroptosis is lower in most cases. After segmental resection of the stomach, this function become to be more disturbed than the preoperative time, however it ts still remaining comparing with the condition of anacidity after partial resection of the pyloric portion of the stomach. 4) The author would like recommend this segmental resecton of the body of the stomach as a new superior surgical treatment of gastroptosis because of it's better results on gastric function, good clinical course after surgery and less disorders after surgery. Indications of this operation will be also more extended.
