I have conducted a survey about the constitutional and anthropological characteristics on 545 inhabitants in the central distrct of Chiba Prefecture during 1951. The results revealed that quite different from the population in Hokuriku, Tohoku and Hoddaido with longheaded type, there exsisted a special constitutional type very similar to that or Hachijo Island, Ida and Kami-ina districts of Nagano Prefecture to the prehistoric population in Yamato and Izumo districts which in the olden days contributed greatly to the development of higher civilization in our country. Particularly the length-width index of the head was found to be 83.31 which not only resembles the short-headed type of Hachijo Island Kami-ina district of Nagano Prefecture and to Izumo or Yamato districts, but was found to be shorter. This indicates, according to Martin's classification of head-type, that the majority belong to the short-headed or very short-headed types. Thus, it is interesting for this suggests that population of central district of Chiba Prefecture has intimate relationship with the cultural tribes which landed Japan Islands from the continent.
