A histopathological comparison of the skin lesions of Arthus phenomenon and the tuberculin types of hypersensitiveness using tuberculous guinea pigs gave us the following results; 1) According to successive investigation. it appears that the pathological change in tuberculin test progresses more sluggish than that of Arthus phenomenon. 2) In tuberculin test polymorphonuclear leukocytes are predominant, although there may be mixed infiltration of mononuclear cells. However, it depends upon the nature of antigens. 3) The chief histopathological picture in tuberculin lesions is fibrinoid swelling of connective tissues, circulatory disturbance and sudden onset of cellular infiltration, and hence it may be considered as essentially same antigen-antibody mechanism as that of Arthus phenomenon. 4) Difference between tuberculin test and Arthus phenomenon may be caused by the fact that tuberculin itself is so-called "haptene". 5) The histopathological picture in the skin lesion in tuberculin test also depends on the nature of tubercle bacilli by which guinea pigs were sensitized.
