Eggs of Ancylostoma caninum were soaked for different periods in varing chemicals, produced spontaneously in sewage, and were placed .on cover glass and sealed with polyethylene film. Observations were carried out on them for 72 hours to study morphologic characteristics of degenerated eggs. The results were as follows. 1. When soaked in a 10 % solution of NaNo_2 for 48 hours, 62.3 % of the eggs showed degeneration. All the eggs degenerated when they were soaked in a 20% solution for over 24 hours ; all the eggs degenerated when they were soaked in a 40 % solution. Morphologic pictures were as follows on above degenerated eggs. Granulation, destruction, shrinking, dislocation, separation of the blastomeres and abnormal division. 2. All the eggs impregnated with NH_4OH of concentrations of 0.5 % showed degeneration. Morphologic changes consisted mainly of granulation and varing forms of destruction. 3. Marked degeneration was noted when the eggs were impregnated with a 40 % isopropyl alcohol solution. The morphologic pictures were granulation, transformation, shrinking, dislocation, destruction and enlargement. 4. All the eggs, treated with propionic acid solution of high concentration, showed degeneration. Degenerated eggs were characterized by granulation, shrinking, dislocation, cyst formation, abnormal division and destruction. 5. All the eggs soaked in a 0.25 % solution of caproic acid for over 24 hours showed degeneration ; all the eggs soaked in a 0.5 % or 1 % solution for 6 hours degenerated. Granulation, shrinking, cyst formation and dislocation constituted the principal morphologic changes. 6. Marked transformation of the embryonated eggs was observed in the eggs when soaked in inbole of varying degrees of concentration for less than 12 hours. When soaked for over 24 hours, all the eggs showed shrinking and dislocation. 7. Morphologic changes commonly obrerved in the eggs impregnated with different chemicals were granulation, shrinking and dislocation.8. Specific changes to each chemical were as follows : The eggs impregnated with NaNO_2 were marked by separation of the blastomeres ; degeneration of the embryonated eggs occurred in the eggs impregnated with indole and isopropyl alcohol, in a large number with the former and in a number with the latter ; and varying forms of degeneration were shown by the eggs impregnated with NH_4OH.
