In 2006,there were heavy snowfall in cold districts in Japan,and many people suffered from damages such as downfall while snow removing on roof and collapse of houses. As one of countermeasures against such snow damages,installation of snow melting device on roof has been considered to be effective. However,such devices have not been wide spread in Japan mainly due to high cost for installation and running fee. This study aims to develop a device for melting roof snow by spraying hot water,which can be energy saving and low cost. This device was installed at a house in Ohno city and its performance was found to be reasonably low cost(about 300 thousand JPY)and to have preferable efficiency(about 70％).
