In the year 2007, which was called The First Year of Commercialization of LED Illuminations, Toshiba Lighting and Technology Corporation released a highly efficient LED downlight, the first product in the industry that keeps a balance between the economy and reduction of CO_2 emissions. The authors designed LED luminaires, such as the downlight mentioned above, not only from the perspective of energy saving, but also from a multifaceted approach, such as the look of the product, ease of installation, visual environment of the installation space, and layout of the scenery. While LED illumination is rapidly spreading, this article introduces the efforts of the authors, and the latest LED illuminations, as well as the future of LED illuminations.
