In this paper I tried to compare "The Third Night" from Soseki's "Ten Nights of Dream" to a folk tale of Izumo or Korean tales such as "A Devoted Son who tried to bury his Son" or "The Daughter-in-law who threw her Son to a Tiger" or Chinese tales such as "A Story of Gou Ju, who tried to bury his Child". I suppose that the above-mentioned Asian folk tales may have influenced, if unconsciously, the mental world of Soseki especially in the creation of his own dream tale "The Third Night"
