In this study, we found that the positive feelings toward pregnancy in Nepalese is low compared to Japanese, despite every Nepalese respondent having experience in caring for someone while they were growing up, except for 1 person who had no answer. This result is thought to arise from the Nepalese caste system in which marriage occurs only within one's caste. In addition, the under-5 mortality rate is high, and fear for the child's death is thought to be one factor. It is thought that maternal consciousness forms by giving birth and seeing, contacting, and holding one's child. For "one should enjoy married life rather than having children," 8.4% of the Brahmin ethnic group and 30.0% of the Dalit ethnic group (p<0.008) disagreed with the statement. For "I can sacrifice myself for my own children," 12.4% of the Brahmin ethnic group and 23.3% of the Dalit ethnic group (p<0.003) agreed with the statement. These results show that some Dalit people, even if they are in poverty, have great affection for their children.
