The purpose of this paper is investigate the morphological features of on-phrases denoting `time' in early Middle English. Examples are taken from annals 1070-1154 of the Peterborough Chronicle. The present study deals with 194 examples of on-phrases denoting `time' to explore the decline of the use of inflection in Old English demonstratives and nouns. The author finds that though the inflected forms of demonstratives and nouns in those phrases occur in approximately 80 percent of examples in annals 1070-1121, they are reduced to nearly 50 percent in annals 1122-1131 and finally disappear in annals 1132-1154 with a few exceptions. The author also discusses the distinctiveness of annals 1132-1154 from a statistical point of view.
