We present a teeth positioning system for bitewing radiographs. A missing teeth detection algorithm is applied to format teeth in both jaws to be sequences comprising molar, premolar, and missing teeth. Both sequences are compared with two standard patterns for better matching pattern (template). The sequence with higher similarity is aligned against the template for the best matching segment, followed by the alignment of the other sequence against this segment. Finally, the universal teeth numbering system is applied. Experimental results show that our method achieves numbering accuracy of 98% and can position the teeth correctly for some misclassified images.
