It is difficult to identify a medium with a modem x-ray CT system, since it measures the energy of all photons that incident to detectors. We proposed a new method to identify a medium with an x-ray CT system, in which we used a detector that could measure photons with several energy windows. Our method identifies an object with several linear attenuation coefficients calculated with these processed data. To evaluate the validity of our proposed method, we conducted some experiments with several typical materials. The results showed that we could identify the materials with a photon counting detector.
