This paper presents an English timing evaluation method to characterize English timing of Thai-native English learners. Our aim is to objectively characterize non-native duration control on (1) control differences between natives and learners and on (2) the relationship between the duration characteristics and learners' background reflecting English experiences. We proposed to use error-based durational deviation calculated from model-based duration prediction as a primary objective measure. Finally, obvious influences of L1 language in less English-experience speakers' speech and gradual improvements according to their English experiences quantitatively were found. Differences of Thai learner's English duration characteristics were also indicated on word class and stress-related controls. The results showed goodness of model-based automatic evaluation using the objective measure.
