The purpose of this study is to have fundamental datas that determine combination of paddlers of kayak pair and four on the racing canoe race. For this purpose, calculating recrd of start and race distance, paddle position, paddling variation that effect was examind. Subjects are top-level paddlers, and the experiments used movie analysis method assisted by high speed camera. Photographs near start and goal were taken, changing in turn subjects at six cockpits in all of kayak pair boat and four. Measuring items are position of paddle at each cockpit, bend forward angle, time of 500m paddle, and distance of blade from center line of boat. And feeling when each subject catched water were examined too. Following results were obtained: 1) Paddle position is little change when compared second of pair with second of four, but fourth catch further boat center line. 2) Near the goal, both paddlers in pair inclined over forward or over backward. 3) Last padders of four stroke shallow blade in water, therefor feeling of pulling is not to catch water enough. 4) At the middle point, position of paddle at each cockpit is not remarkable change, both near start and near goal, when compared first of pair with second of pair and first of four. But second and third of four had change, especially fourth of four bended forward and moved forward at the paddling. 5) Determing combination of pair and four, it is desirable that post paddler who can hold either little incline even at last cockpit or not changing blade position when stroke at first cockpit. In this investigation, making rotation six cockpits of pair and four, and analyzing film, position of blade and time were studied by the combination. But, in the future, it is nesessary that more examine by reseaching wave of velocity variation at paddling of kayak single boat.
