This paper deals with Ukifune who is a leading figure in Genji-monogatari Part 3. Particularly, the portraiture of Ukifune is treated in it. Ukifune's portrait has a distinguishing mark. It is brought out in the Ukifune's tenarai-uta (手習歌) (waka (和歌) which are written down by Ukifune in her solitude). To consider this matter, first of all, this paper answers the question of Ukifune's tenarai-uta in Tenarai-no-maki (手習巻). Many annotated editions and medieval commentaries (for example Kachoyosei (花鳥余情), Sairyusho (細流抄) and so on) are compared and criticized in this section. As a result, a best interpretation is pointed. Secondly, the portraiture of Ukifune is clarified by a consideration to Ukifune's tenarai-uta. In this section it is considered that a difference between the images which oter characters in this story (for instance Imouto-ama (妹尼), Chujo (中将) etc.) and Ukifune herself makes her isolation.
