The following conclusions were drawn from an examination of the results of paper partition chromatography analyses run for fatty acids and glycerides, respectively, on male and female <Culex>___- <pipiens>___- and <Culex>___- <tritaeniorhyncus>___- raised for five days at 13℃ on a feed of 15% sugar solution. (1) Three types of free fatty acids were identified in both species, viz., linolenic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid; as for ester fatty acids, four types were identified, viz., linolenic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid and parmitic acid. (2) The following three types of glycerides were identified in the male and female of both species: a triglyceride of a low degree of unsaturation (A), a triglyceride of a high degree of unsaturation (B), and a diglyceride of a high degree of unsaturation (C). It was observed that large quantities of (B) and small quantities of (C) were present in the fat bodies, but there was, no trace of (A). In tissues without fat bodies, (A) and (C) were present, but there was no (B). (3) (A) is a triglyceride which contains parmitic acid and is a constituent element in tissues without fat bodies. It cannot be thought of as a source of energy. (4) (B) is triglyceride which contains the fatty acids of linolenic, linoleic and oleic acid. It is found only in fat bodies and can be thought of as an energy accumulative-type of lipid. (5) (C) is a diglyceride which contains the same fatty acids as (B) and can be thought of as an energy source-type of lipid that is widely distributed among both fat bodies and other tissues. (6) On the basis of the above points, it can be inferred that the structure of the lipid metabolism in both species operates, just as in the case of the pupa of <Bombyx>___- <mori>___- <Linne>___-, according to the formula in which diglyceride-carrying lipoprotein transports diglyceride; viz., Triglyceride H_2O Diglyceride + Free Fatty Acids Diglyceride-carrying lipoprotein Tissues
