I have believed Kyoujyu(教授),Jyokyoujyu(助教授), and SenninKoushi(専任講師) the Job Ranking of College or University teachers in Japan - are professor, associate professor and lecturer in English until quite recently. But I heard someone used the term assistant professor by the meaning of lecturer the other day. I felt this usage very strangely, so I asked him if this usage was right or not. He told me it was right usage and the Ministry of Education ,Culture,Sports,Science and Technology admits it. I was terribly shocked to hear it. After that, I looked up the word Sennnin Koushi in several Japanese - English dictionaries. But I can't find the word 'assistant professor' as a means of Sennnin Koushi in the Japanese - English dictionaries. This is why I'll check and analyze the difference between in English and in Japanese of college(or university) teacher's job ranking.
