During World War II, approximately 1,800 Japanese Peruvians were interned in the U.S.A. After the War ended, most of the internees had but two options: to "return" to Japan or to "remain" in the U.S.A. In this article, I would like to present the life story of a Japanese Peruvian man. He is one of the "returnees" to Japan, who repatriated to Okinawa. Based on his narrative, it is possible to recreate the internment experience, which has been generally discussed in the context of Post-colonialism. First, I would like to focus on the post-war experience in Okinawa and understand his interment experience through his account. Then, I would like to examine how his life story can be applied to Nikkei studies.
