In the past, many structures failed by surface fault rupture however the only way to mitigate this damage until now is to avoid constructing building on the fault zone. As a result, we focused our study on behavior of the structure on the fault rupture movement in order to find the better way to reduce the fault rupture damage. Applied Element Method (AEM) was employed to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete bridge and building under surface fault rupture. The simulation result in case of Arifiye bridge indicated that the connection between bridge girders can cause the progressive collapse of the others far from the fault. And the result from typical building showed that the failure behavior is controlled by rebar cut-off in beams or columns which resulting in large force drops. Moreover, different dip angle results in different modes of failure but only slightest difference in the maximum resisting displacement. [This abstract is not included in the PDF]
