Modeling of injection of NH_3 and a radical initiator into combustion gases produced from coal was performed to determine the feasibility of improving the efficiency of NO_x removal. It was found that the addition of a small amount of H_2O_2 promotes the formation of NH_2 radicals and increases the NO_x removal efficiency markedly. Existence of small amounts of excess O_2 in the combustion gases is helpful in reducing the unreacted NH_3 slips.
