In the 50's of Showa era, computer simulation technique on internal combustion engine was drastically developed and widely utilized in both universities and engine manufactures. In this paper, historical development and views of power machinery especially diesel engines and the role of computer simulations are first discussed. In the 40's of Showa era the author investigated and developed the following computer simulation programs; engine cycle simulation for the performance, the heat transfer and thermal stress of combustion chamber walls, the transvers vibration of engine frames and the valve train behaviours. The next forcus of this paper is brief explanation of the above mentioned programs. Furthermore, as for the cycle simulation program for engine performance, the latest investigation and the future forcast on engine performance resulting from the said simulation are discussed. Lastly the direction of future development of engine simulation technique is suggested.
