The author made 132 cystometric determinations on 98 cases and recorded their intravesical pressure curves on the kymograph. The following three forms of recording apparatus were used in recording the curves. 1) Mercury manometer with float: This apparatus does not clearly record the waves of the intravesical pressure curve. 2) Water manometer with tambour: Although it is possible to record clearly the waves of the intravesical pressure curve with this apparatus, it is not possible to obtain an accurate picture of the intravesical pressure. 3) Water manometer with float: With this apparatus it is possible to obtain a clear recording of the waves of the intravesical pressure curve, moreover, the movements of the float, connected with the mercury manometer, records the terms of the mercury column-thus giving the pressure in terms of the mercury manometer. In recording, the following three methods were used. 1) Fractional Instillation Method I. By this method the small waves of the intravesical pressure when the instillation is stopped, and the large waves of the maximum voluntary pressure of the intravesical pressure curve, are recorded. 2) Fractional Instillation Method II. The intravesical pressure curve obtained by this method records the large waves due to the instillation and the intravesical pressure, the small waves due to intravesical pressure when the instillation is stopped, and finally the large waves due to maximum voluntary pressure. The waves which show the combination of instillation pressure and intravesical pressure, however, have very little significance in the interpretation of the intravesical pressure curve, therefore, the above two methods are in no way different. From the author's investigation it is thought that the rhythmic small waves of the curve due to intravesical pressure when the instillation is stopped obtained by the fractional instillation methods I and II are due to respiration, moreover it is thought that these rhythmic small waves show complex changes or variations due to nervous disorders of the bladder, changes in the bladder wall and also to the psychological status of the patient. 3) Continuous Instillation Method: In this method in order to avoid the pressure due to the instillation a two-way catheter was used and the two systems of instillation and the transmission of pressure respectively were separately maintained. By this method it is possible to observe only the nature of the waves of the intravesical pressure curve and the condition of the rise in the pressure curve, but it is impossible to observe the volume of desire to void accurately.
