This paper describes the turbulent flow simulation around a circular cylinder with LES (Large Eddy Simulation) method. Because of the intent that we will use this code for simulation of the gas turbine components in the future, the computational code for compressible flows is adopted. The flow of Re=3900 is employed to check the reliability of LES code with the compressible flow algorithm because there are the experimental data and previous simulation data by Beaudan and Moin (1993). To begin with, the computation with Smagorinsky model for LES and with TVD (Total Variation Diminishing) limiter function for high-speed flow is executed. Then, the simulations without TVD limiter are carried out in order to check the effect of artificial viscosity for LES simulation which is sensitive to this viscosity. The difference between Smagorinsky and Dynamic models for LES is also examined. The simulation of larger Reynolds number Re=16000 is also carried out and the characteristic values of circular cylinder such as drag force and separation angle are compared with experimental values. The effectiveness of LES simulation for complex flow is confirmed through the detailed examinations of circular cylinder.
