TS-34 3D Navier-Stokes Simulation of a Transonic Flutter Cascade near Stall Conditions(Session B-3: Advanced Numerical Analysis of Cascade)

An experimentally investigated transonic flutter cascade with a strong unsteady shock-boundary layer interaction is simulated time-accurately at different operating points including near stall conditions. As large three-dimensional separations occur, a time-marching 3D Navier-Stokes code with a Low-Reynolds-Number κ-ε turbulence model is used. After a brief description of the numerical scheme and its optimization, simulations of the flutter cascade at both 0°and 4°incidence are presented. In the 0°incidence case, only corner stall separations appear and satisfactory results are achieved with the assumption of full turbulence. By contrast, the 4° incidence case shows additional separations and its simulation requires transition modelling. Hot film measurement data are used to model transition with no numerical criterion. The results of the 4° incidence flutter computation compare well with experimental data and show a negative aerodynamic damping, thus reproducing the known destabilizing effect of high incidence.
