The present study is focussed on turbocharger blade vibrations which are highly relevant for damage caused by high cycle fatigue. Fatigue failures in radial inflow turbines are mostly caused by alternating stress, which is a consequence of blade vibration. Blade vibration in radial inflow turbines are assumed to be predominantly excited by aerodynamic forces. In the present paper results of unsteady flow field calculations are discussed particularly with regard to the aerodynamic excitation. Calculated time dependent pressure distributions on the turbine blades will be shown. To get the resulting structural behaviour, finite element calculations were carried out, taking the turbine blade pressure functions into account. The CFD-FE-Interface will be described as well as results of structure dynamical investigations.
